Using Sub-Addresses in Arya

Updated over a week ago

Sometimes patients from the same family or household want to share one email address for communication, but each patient still needs their own chart in Arya. To make this possible, Arya supports sub-addressing.

What is a Sub-Email Address?

A sub-email address is created by adding a “+word” before the @ symbol in an existing email address. For example, if a family’s main email is:

familyemail@gmail.com

You can create unique sub-address, such as:

familyemail+mom@gmail.com

familyemail+dad@gmail.com

familyemail+child@gmail.com

All emails will still go to the same inbox (familyemail@gmail.com), but Arya treats each version as a separate address.

When to Use the Sub-Address

Sub-addresses can be used in Arya anywhere a unique email is required, such as:

  • Patient Portal access: Each patient needs their own email address to log in.

  • Online booking: Patients can use sub-addresses to book appointments or sign up with a clinic that allows online registration.

How It Works in the Patient Portal

  1. When a physician shares a document, the patient will receive a Patient Portal Invite email.

  2. The email clearly states the name of the patient it is intended for, so families can see which account the message belongs to.

  3. To sign in, the patient must use the sub-address version of their email address (e.g., familyemail+child@gmail.com) along with their Portal password.

All messages arrive in one inbox, but each patient has a separate Portal login and booking identity.

How It Works in the Online Booking

  1. When a patient opens the clinic's online booking page, they can click the Book Appointment button.

  2. The patient needs to fill out the required fields, including the email address. They can enter their sub-address (e.g. familyemail+mom@gmail.com) and proceed to book an appointment.

Note: sub-email addresses work with most major email providers (such as Gmail and Outlook). If patients are unsure, they should test by sending themselves an email first.
