Result Signing Workflow for Multi-Physician Results

Overview

When an IH or Excelleris result is associated with multiple physicians, each physician must independently review and sign the result. This workflow ensures that one physician signing a result does not prevent other associated physicians from reviewing and signing it.

How Multi-Physician Result Assignment Works

When an IH or Excelleris result is received for more than one physician:

  • The result appears in the result inbox for all associated physicians.

  • The result is assigned to the ordering provider. If no ordering provider exists, it is assigned to the first CC'd physician.

  • The result is visible in both Global Results and Patient Results

Unsigned Results

When no associated physician has signed the result:

  • The result appears as Unsigned in All Users view and each associated physician's filter

  • Each associated physician can independently sign the result.

Signing a Result

When a physician signs a result:

  • The result is removed from the signing physician's filter

  • The result remains visible for any associated physicians who have not yet signed.

Whenever a physician signs a result, a record of the action is displayed in the Result Information Panel.

Example:

CC: Signed by Dr. Jane Smith Jan 01, 2026 08:00 AM

This allows users to see which associated physicians have already reviewed the result.

Signing on Behalf of Another Physician

Users who are not directly associated with the result (for example, MOAs) can sign on behalf of a physician.

Clinical Users: if viewing the result under another physician's filter, a clinical user may sign on behalf of that unsigned physician.

Non-Clinical Users (MOAs): When a non-associated user selects Sign:

  1. A dialog appears.

  2. The user selects the physician they are signing on behalf of.

  3. The sign-off is recorded for the selected physician.

Result Visibility After Signing

When Some Physicians Have Signed

If one or more associated physicians have signed:

  • The result remains visible in All Users view and filters for physicians who have not signed

  • Unsigned physicians continue to have the option to sign.

Once every associated physician has signed, the result is removed from the results inbox.

Expected Behavior Summary

✅ Physicians who have not signed can continue to view and sign the result.

✅ Signing a result removes it only for the physician who signed.

✅ Users can sign on behalf of another physician when appropriate permissions allow.

✅ Sign-off activity is recorded in the Result Information Panel.

✅ Results are cleared from inboxes only after all associated physicians have signed.
